Zhou Zuoren (Chinese: 周作人, Wade Giles: Chou Tso-jen) (16 January 1885-6 May 1967), political figure and well-known Chinese writer and brother of influential writer Lu Xun. Zhou was a writer and scholar of Chinese literature. He wrote in the era of the broadening adoption of baihua or vernacular Chinese writing. He was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province in 1885, and died in Beijing in 1967, during the cultural revolution.
In 1945, Zhou was arrested for treason by the Nationalist government of Chang Kai-shek, stemming from his alleged collaboration with the Japanese during their occupation. Zhou was sentenced to 14 years in Nanjing Prison, but was released in 1949 after a pardon. Later that year he returned to Beijing to continue writing.
