Zevulon Veers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Star Wars Expanded Universe, Zevulon Veers was the eldest son of noted Imperial Army general, Maximilian Veers. He questioned the Galactic Empire's motives from a young age, after his mother's death by disease during holday, but was still compelled the join COMPNOR's Sub-Adult Group, a paramilitary group to indoctrinate youth into the New Order; out of concern for his father's career, Zev managed to keep quiet most of his deep concerns about the New Order's repressive police tactics and heavy use of slaves like the Mon Calamari and the Wookiees; further education in logic and philosophy only sharpened his doubts and concerns. He promised himself that he would not end up conditioned to simply follow orders like his father, a conviction which grew following Maximilian's victory at Hoth.

At this time, his father being hailed as a great hero of the galaxy, and the praises of him and the New Order were numerous and effusive. Zev soon conclusively learned the truth behind the Empire's facade. After his training in the Sub-Adult Group, he had been assigned to a CompForce tour, where he served essentially as a heavily armed police enforcer. He had been assigned to be the bodyguard of the commander of his CompForce battalion; the commander had been trained by the Imperial Security Bureau, rival to Imperial Intelligence, in "interrogation", or really, torture of the old librarian suspected of being a Rebel. At that moment, the Rebels attacked. Zev could not let the old man die of the wounds inflicted by the commander, so he administered first aid, saving his life. This kind act convinced the Rebels to let Zev join the Alliance despite his family background. He joined the Rebel Alliance and later the New Republic Defense Fleet. He served aboard the Emancipator and saw action in the First Battle of Dac and the Battle of the Emperor's Citadel.
