[edit] Zeta Tau Omega Sorority

Zeta Tau Omega Sorority is located at Concordia University in Montreal,Quebec. It is the oldest local sorority in Montreal.

Zeta Tau Omega Sorority offers members a wide array of opportunities and benefits. These include philanthropy and community service events, social activities, academic scholarships, a supportive home environment, a network of sisters, close friendships, and memories that last a lifetime!

[edit] History

On November 28th 1967, six (6) women of Loyola College, seeing the need for a third sorority on campus, drew up an embryonic constitution with the understanding that future amendments would most likely be required.

The six (6) founding mothers are as follows: Linda Renaud, Andrea Coonan, Valerie Bedard, Sonia Danko, Therese Fedorak, Kathleen McGuire

On December 5th 1967, the constitution was adopted and formal plans for probationary recognition began. In the meantime, various committees were set up. Examples of these were the Pin Crest Committee and a Pledge Education Committee. Mrs. Gail Valaskakis became our Chapter Advisor.

On January 15th 1968, a brief asking for recognition was submitted to the college Sub Committee on Fraternities and Sororities. The appeal was accepted and ZETA TAU OMEGA became an official sorority, with prospective Chapter membership of thirty (30) women.

[edit] Joining

So you want to join a sorority? Or, more importantly, you may want to know what a sorority is?

Well, basically, by surfing through our site, you will get a glimpse of all our activities, but there is so much more!

[edit] What things you should know if you are interested in joining?

Membership is open to any undergraduate female student in the Montreal area. You do not need to be a Concordia student to join, although our sorority house is located near the Concordia (Loyola) campus.

Zeta Tau Omega Sorority does not discriminate based on ethnicity, age, religion, or social class. If you attend any of our events, you will be met with an extremely diverse group of young women, representing all parts of the world.

[edit] What do sororities DO?

Zeta Tau Omega has several many events throughout the year: + CHARITY EVENTS + PARTIES + MIXERS WITH OTHER FRATERNITIES AND SORORITIES

We also have other events to which only members can participate, that are loads of fun: + ANNUAL MOTHER-DAUGHTER BANQUET + SWEETHEART ROSE BALL (OUR ANNUAL FORMAL DINNER & BALL)

Other recreation activities for sisters, including movie nights, karaoke, weekend retreats, and road trips.

[edit] How do I become a sister?

Most (although not all) sororities and fraternities follow a standard procedure to become a member. To become a sister of Zeta Tau Omega, you should first be aware of certain important periods during the school semester.

At the beginning of the Fall and Winter semester, there is a period called RUSH. These first weeks of school are the time at which you will find our Rush Tables set up throughout the school and give you a chance to talk to some sisters, pick up a few pamphlets, and check out our photo albums!

During the Rush period, is your chance to check out our sorority house (we have an open house Rush Tea), and other events that will allow you to meet people and find out what we’re all about.

If you have shown an active interest in our organization, you will then become a PLEDGE of the sorority; basically, this is a probationary period where you learn about the history and values of the sorority, and must show an active involvement in the organization’s activities.

    • To satisfy everyone’s curiosity, Zeta Tau Omega’s Constitutional by-laws on hazing forbid the use of alcohol, drugs, or any sexual activity during pledging events, so don’t worry! We do not do anything illegal!
    • Also, our motto is “YOU CHOOSE US, WE DON’T CHOOSE YOU!” This means that we do not “blackball.” That means that we do not pick and choose a select group of girls based on certain criteria. Zeta Tau Omega feels that diversity and open-mindedness have made us the longest standing sorority on campus.
