[edit] History
The core of Zeromancer met in the influential Norwegian band Seigmen. During the 1990s this band dominated the national rock scene and even made a name for themselves outside the country by playing concerts abroad.
When Seigmen split in 1999, Alex Møklebust (vocals), Erik Ljunggren (programming), Kim Ljung (bass guitar) and Noralf Ronthi (drums) joined forces with Chris Schleyer(ex-Kidneythieves) (guitar) as Zeromancer.
[edit] Music
Musically Zeromancer can be put in the ever increasing Industrial Rock category, along with household names such as Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Die Krupps, newer songs from Oomph!, and Rammstein. But they also have a purer Synthpop sound to some of their songs, that may remind people of bands like Depeche Mode.
In the spring of 2000 they released their first album, the rather successful Clone Your Lover where the title track was a minor hit at clubs and venues. This album also won them the award for the best newcomer of 2000 at the German Alternative Music Awards.
The following year they released their Eurotrash album, featuring a cover version of the song "Send Me an Angel" that was a major hit back in 1983 with the Australian group Real Life.
In the spring of 2003, coinciding with the US reissue of Clone Your Lover, the band toured in the USA together with the early 1990s superheroes Pigface and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. This tour resulted in a growing fan base in the New World too.
In the autumn 2003 they released their third and so far last album, Zzyzx. The name comes from a street sign that band saw while touring in the USA; in San Bernardino County, California, there's a place called Zzyzx Springs and it was given that name to ensure that it would be last in the index of all US place names. After the release, Chris Schleyer left the band, following an offer to join A Perfect Circle as a rehearsal guitarist. He's currently (as of March 2007) promoting his new band Affected, and working with Nine Inch Nails on their current tour.
The band is currently taking a break, freeing up the members to do other things. Kim is active with his band, Ljungblut, Alex has done some producing for a few Norwegian bands (such as Gåte and Don Juan Dracula) and Erik has lent his programming skills to a number of other artists (Satyricon, Undergod). According to the official Zeromancer website, "ZMR promise to return fall of 2006. An early ten track demo from the Oval room is recorded." As of March 25th, 2007, there's been no new word on another release.
