[edit] Otheruses templates

To discuss these templates as a whole, please see Wikipedia talk:Disambiguation If you wish to discuss general wordings, rather than the wording or formatting of this specific template, don't post here, or else what you say will probably go unnoticed.

For a summary page on how to use these templates, see Wikipedia:Otheruses templates (example usage).

[edit] Generic

For example, {{dablink|For other senses of this term, see [[etc...]]}}. This template is adaptable, but fails to standardize hatnotes.

[edit] Notes

Do not use subst: with these templates, as that will prevent:

  1. propagating changes as the template is modified; and
  2. the What links here (WLH) listing.

DO NOT EDIT THESE TEMPLATES UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING

These templates may be used in thousands of articles, and changing the syntax could therefore break thousands of articles. If you wish to edit a disambiguation template first ask yourself:

  1. Is there already another template that will do this job? We have lots of disambiguation templates already, see Category:Disambiguation and redirection templates.
  2. Do I really need a template for this? Will it ever get used on any other articles, or should I just use {{dablink}} instead?
  3. Do I know what will happen if I change the parameters around? Will it break existing uses of the template, and if so, can I fix them all?

[edit] About me

Hello. I like knowledge, and have a fair amount thereof, and this is reason enough for me to be here. Let no one say I lack for modesty, though; I mostly copyedit and fix small factual errors.

I'm male and between the ages of 16 and 26.

My interests include law, philosophy, literature, philosophy of law, philosophy of literature, and law & literature. (And politics and current events and blah blah blah.) Plus some unpredictable and desultory pop-culture things...

As of December 9, 2005, I am a 133 on the Wikipediholic test.

[edit] Public domain

All contributions by this user hereby released into the public domain
Public domain I, the author, hereby agree to waive all claim of copyright (economic and moral) in all content contributed by me, the user, and immediately place any and all contributions by me into the public domain; I grant anyone the right to use my work for any purpose, without any conditions, to be changed or destroyed in any manner whatsoever without any attribution or notice to the creator.

Given that this may not be possible (see Wikipedia:Granting work into the public domain#Legal basis of copyright in the United States),

I, the author, hereby do promise and swear not to press legal action against any individual or entity for or solely because of use of my work.
I would, however, appreciate being notified of any commercial or scholarly use of my work (I know I'm not an expert on anything, but perhaps you're studying Wikipedia?), if realized and if possible. This can be done through my talk page or the "E-mail this user" link on the left side of this page.

As I see it, the presumption should be in favor of free use, not restriction and stasis. The fear seems primarily one of lawsuits, so I promise not to sue just because you use something I wrote. You might be a no-good plagiarizer, but as far as I'm concerned you're no criminal.

[edit] Minor edits

I only mark an edit as minor if:

  • It's only changing individual characters (your > you're; "this, and that" > "this and that")
  • It's only fixing typos, misspellings, etc.
  • It's completely uncontroversial (or at least as uncontroversial as anything here can get) and uninteresting—i.e., there's no chance that someone interested in the article might want take note of the edit

[edit] "Show preview" button

I don't use it nearly as much as I should. Without a doubt, this will keep me from achieving true happiness, but it will inflate my edit total much faster!

[edit] External links

I've gone back and forth on this, but this part of the external links style guide makes me think the time is near to really start culling extraneous material. I've been responsible for some of that, to be sure—some relatively recently—but the most obvious insights—like, "it takes under half a second to Google something"—always seem to take time.

[edit] Biases

It seems all the high-powered users have a section like this, so...

[edit] Politics/Philosophy

I'm a small-"l" libertarian (though I despise labels, I think they're a necessity for most political discourse). This means I basically agree with everything in this document.

Recent currents in continental philosophy also fascinate me.

I don't think bias in my edits is much of a problem, if only because I rarely do anything major.

[edit] Political Compass
According to the Political Compass this user is:
Economic Right (8.63) and
Social Libertarian (-4)

[edit] World's Smallest Political Quiz
  • Personal Freedom: 100%*
  • Economic Freedom: 100%

* NOTE: The last version I took gave me a Personal Freedom score of 95%, because I was neutral on the question of open immigration. This question is no longer on the quiz. (So I'm not a TOTAL ideologue ;)
