[edit] Biography
Being born in Barbados (24.12.1960), Zeeteah went to London when she was only 5 years old. This is where she was raised. One of the first records Zeeteah recorded was a cover of The Jackson 5’s "We Got A Good Thing Going" in a reggae style. She went on to record several more reggae records before deciding to change her music style.
One of her first acting roles was the part of "Chiffon" in the musical Little Shop of Horrors in London.
Throughout her music career she has been an additional vocalist for renowned artists worldwide, including tours with Tom Jones, Sting and Michael Bolton. In 1988 she toured with Kim Wilde on Michael Jackson’s European leg of his “BAD” tour.
It didn't take long for the music industry to discover this extra-ordinary talent. In 1993 she sang the vocals on the No.1 Hot Dance Music/Club Play (Arizona1 featuring Zeitia) with a song called "Slide On The Rhythm." The song was later remixed by the C&C Music Factory. She went on to record one other with Arizona, called "I Specialise In Love.2"
Shortly after working with "Arizona" she signed a deal with Virgin Records and released 2 singles: "Sexual Prime" and "This Is The Place," the latter charted on the UK Single Sales Charts3. During her time with Virgin Records she also took part in the pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in the United Kingdom in 1996. In the finals she was voted in at number 3 by the viewers.
In 2001 Massiah decided to move to Germany. She continues to tour with more artists, including the German singer "Michelle" and Eikichi Yazawa, whom she has toured with extensively since 1997.
Massiah has recorded several dance/house/pop records (see discography below).
[edit] Notes
- At the beginning of her career, Massiah's name was spelled "Zeitia" for the British public (as her record companies indicated this would be easier to remember). "Zeeteah" however is the correct spelling of her name.
- "I Specialise In Love" by "Arizona featuring Zeitia" entered the UK single charts on March 12, 1994.
- "This is The Place" by "Zeitia Massiah" entered the UK single charts on September 24, 1994.
- This song is going to be re-recorded by German pop singer Jamie Stevens in 2006.
