Zboriv (Ukrainian: Зборів, Polish: Zborów) is a small town in Ternopil Oblast, west Ukraine in the historical region of Galicia. Population is 7,400 (2001).
The city, located 35 km northwest of Ternopil, and 85 km southeast of Lviv lies on Strypa River (Ukrainian: Cтpипа). It was mentioned for the first time in a document from 1166.
Was a place of significant battles during 1st and 2nd World Wars, the town was completely destroyed in the summer of 1944 due to Soviet offensive. Under Soviet rule, 1944-1991 -town was completely rebuilt and redeveloped,founded its own hospital, school;some small food processing and construction plants were also created in 60-ies. Significant part of local budget was relied on agriculture,and government subsidies, local state farm was one of the best in the region. In 80-ies town became the object of some serious government investments,with new installed facilities: Cinema, agricultural market, a second secondary school, waterbike lake station, football stadium, city hall and culture hall. State and private construction got seriously progressed. After the collapse of Soviet rule, local economy, based on collective farming and subsidies, almost collapsed.In late 90-ies and until recent time most active-age people left for abroad as a low skilled labour force, lots of families got separated.In spite of some of those facts, young people in nowadays are not likely to quit, prefer to commute daily to closest regional centres like Ternopol and Lviv , with the greater job opportunities.
