Zarzis

Zarzis (Arabic: جرجيس‎) is a coastal town in southeastern Tunisia, on the coast of Mediterranean Sea. It is located at around 33°30′0″N, 11°7′0″E with a population of 110,000 (2002 survey). The climate is mainly dry and sunny, making it a popular tourist destination mixing the old and the traditional. It has a major port where a park of economic activities is based. In fact this very port is of major importance and played a very crucial role throughout the history of Zarzis, and to the Phoenician, Romans and Arabs the port was of strategic importance.

The local economy is diverse--agriculture, mainly olives, oil and tourism.
