Founded in 1994, ZAP (short for "Zero Air Pollution") is a publicly-owned corporation (stock symbol ZAAP, as listed on NASDAQ) company located in Santa Rosa, California which manufactures and markets various electric vehicles. It is also making available US-legal gray-market conversions of the gasoline-powered Smart car, which is popular in Europe for its tiny size and fuel economy.

The US-registered importer used by ZAP (G&K) received clearance from the federal government to convert 2003 - 2006 model-year Smart Fortwos for resale in several US states. ZAP is a licensed manufacturer with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), one of only 15 manufacturers. ZAP also manufactures and distributes electric cars, electric bikes and electric ATV's and electric scooters. ZAP manufactures and distributes, through auto dealers, the ZAP Xebra, an all electric car and truck. ZAP has distributed over 95,000 electric vehicles since its inception, making it one of the largest in the world. The company also has an exclusive agreement with Obvio, a Brasilian auto manufacturer. In January, 2007, ZAP signed an agreement with Lotus Cars to work on new electric car designs, the ZAP-X.

ZAP makes electric motorcycles and scooters, and formerly made Electric power-assist system motor kits for bicycles using a friction roller against the wheel.
