Zamil Group

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Founded in the late 1930s in the former British protectorate of Bahrain by Abdullah Hamad Al Zamil, the Zamil Group today, based in Saudi Arabia, is a diversified industrial conglomerate with companies whose shares are actively traded in the Kingdom's Tadawul market.

With interests as diverse as the manufucture and sale of air conditioners, paints, construction material & hardware, methanol, plastics, and a wide range of food products, the Zamil Group has firmly asserted its place as a market maker in Saudi Arabia's burgeoning profile in the international marketplace

The Zamil Group has shown itself as a pioneer among Saudi Arabia's prominent family owned merchant empires, many of whom are in a transitionary phase of their existence having lost their founders to age. The situation has seen a shortage of capital available to expand with a wider inheritor base, and the Zamil family, envisoning a drop in market share and subsequent limitations on income & dividends, diluted their equity to allow outside investors. This action increased the funding available to secure and expand their businesses and also widened the possibilities of professional management. Other merchants in the region, with a wide berth of actvities and inadequate funding, see themselves in similar situations and having watched Zamil's growth in this new phase, are seeking ways to implement such innovation within their own families and organizations.
