Mines Air Services Limited (MAS) was incorporated in 1948 as a subsidiary of Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM). As part of the process of privatisation of the mines, MAS was disposed of by the Government of Zambia on 28 April 1998. MAS purchased two new Raytheon Beech 1900D Airliner aircraft from Raytheon Credit Corporation (RCC) in July and August 1998 respectively. The company has been operating these two aircraft since then, under the trading name of Zambian Airways.

- Domestic scheduled destinations: Chipata, Livingstone, Lusaka (Hub), Mwinilunga, Ndola.
- International scheduled destinations: Harare, Johannesburg, Dar es Salaam

Zambian Airways fleet includes the following aircraft (as of November 2006):
In October 2006, Zambian Airways acquired two Boeing 737-200s from Safair and has an option to buy a third of the type in early 2007, which it is will use to expand its regional African services[2].
The airline has returned its two Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia aircraft to lessor Naturelink Aviation[3].
