Zakia Kohzad (Persian: ذكيه كهزاد) (born October 15, 1950?) was a former TV news anchor for Kabul TV. She is spouse to the Afghan artist Youssof Kohzad. She resides an exile in Tracy, California, USA.

[edit] Background

Zakia was born in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan in 1950. Little is known about her early years. She attended Kabul University and earned a Bachelor's degree in 1981. By 1988, Zakia secured a job as an anchor on Kabul TV.

In 1992, she and her family emigrated to India and, subsequently in 2000, to the United States. Her entertainment involvements are now limited.

Zakia is considered to have been (as of 2007) the best female Afghan news anchor in terms of eloquence, verbiage, enunciation and delivery of the news material. In the late 80s when she received a permanent position at the now defunct Kabul TV, she became a celebrity and a fashion role model for Afghan women. It was she who set the trend of blonde highlights in Kabul. Her style of speech and attire were also leading currents for the women.
