From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zajal is a very traditional form of popular Arabic poetry. It is mostly improvised, and comes in the form of a debate between zajjaaleh (poets who improvise the zajal). One of the most common forms of zajal is known in Lebanon. It is usually accompanied by melodic and rhythmic musical instruments, which play in between verses.

Some well known Lebanese zajjaaleh include Talih Hamdan, Zaghloul alDamour, Moussa Zgheib, Asaad Said, Khalil Rukoz, and many other very well known names.
