Zadaa

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zadaa is a desert world in the fantasy series Pendragon by D.J. MacHale. One of the main cities is called Xhaxhu and it is the home of the traveler Loor and her acolyte Saangi. It is also the home of two tribes, the Rokador and Batu, and many different characters.

[edit] The Two Tribes

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The Rokador is a light skinned tribe that wear white clothing and live in underground cities that they tunneled out of the rock with Dygo's, spherical vehicles on tank-like treads with large drill bits protruding from the front. They control the water on Zadaa in return for protection from the cannibal tribes of the desert, and have more advanced technology than the Batu. Theye rarely came up to the surface and when they do they are careful. In book six they were keeping most of the water for themselves and weren't giving much to the Batu. Bobby and Loor won again on Zadaa and now the 2 tribes live more harmoniously with each other. For more information on the events see The Rivers of Zadaa.

The Batu are a darker skinned tribe. They wear lighter clothes because they live on the surface of Zadaa, which is incredibly hot. They live in clay homes and live more traditionally than the Rokador, hardly using any technology in day to day life, but they use things like fireworks in their celebrations. The Ghee are Batu warriors who wear light armor and try their best to create order around Xhaxhu during hard times. Loor stated in book six that if a Ghee rejects their responsibility, they are sent off the labor camps in the desert or executed. In The Lost City of Faar Loor along with other Batu compete in a training match of a game in an arena. The game consists of one team trying to knock the five stakes off the each member of the opposite team with clubs.

[edit] More About Xhaxhu

Formerly Xhaxhu was a pretty peaceful city, with the occasional conflicts that you can expect in any society. It was an oasis in the desert, the only place within hundreds of miles that had water or really any form of civilization, except labor camps, training camps, or the cannibal tribes that roam the vast desert. In The Rivers of Zadaa, the Rokador get greedy with the water, which was obviously the result of Saint Dane's meddlings, and the surface almost totally dries up. With a push in the opposite direction of Saint Dane's by the Travelers and the normal people of Zadaa, the ocean of water the Rokador had hoarded underground burst out and the land surrounding and inside of Xhaxhu became lush again.
