Zack Stortini is an enforcer for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League. He was born September 11, 1985 in Elliot Lake, Ontario. He made his first NHL appearance on January 21, 2007, against the Calgary Flames. Stortini was a -1 and recoeved a 10 minute misconduct penalty in the third period of his first game. Stortini was leading the AHL in penalty minutes at the time of his call up. He was brought up to add some toughness to the Oilers after they had been banged around in the previous few games. The Oilers also wanted a "Heavy Weight" in their line up to go against Calgary Flames Heavy Weight Fighter Eric Godard . The Flames and Oilers rivalry is called the Battle of Alberta. He had 9 fights this season in the Minors and one in pre season before his call up. He was sent back to the Edmonton AHL minor league team after the game during the NHL all star break, but later returned to the lineup.
Stortini was chosen in the 3rd round, 94th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He is the former captain of the Sudbury Wolves, where he has spent his entire OHL career.
Zack scored his first NHL goal against the Vancouver Canucks on February 6th, 2007 during the second period.
