Career Highlights | |
Zachary "Zac" Dawson is an Australian rules footballer with the Hawthorn Football Club.
Dawson debuted in 2005, but in 2006 was one of the most talked about 2nd year players in the AFL. For the first eight games of 2006, Alistair Clarkson played Dawson as fullback, and on more than one occasion was comprehensively beaten. In particular, Collingwood giant Anthony Rocca kicked 8 goals on Dawson as he outmuscled and outplayed him.[1]
Clarkson was widely criticised for the decision to keep him in the team and at his position; he was seen as too skinny and not strong enough to play at the elite level.[citation needed] Dawson persevered, but was dropped from the team after round 8, but rebounded for 4 games (Rounds 15-18).
Aside from being played at fullback, Dawson also has played as a quick, mobile defender. He was selected with pick 41 in the 2003 AFL Draft.
