Talk:Zach Braff

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zach Braffs dad is a profesor at Rutgers School of Law in Newark NJ. I think his mother might be a professor as well and that she ended up marying one of her co workers.

[edit] Coldplay an Unknown Band

Say what? According to this article, Braff chose the unknown band "Coldplay" for "The Last Kiss" soundtrack. Since when is Coldplay unknown?

Last I checked, Remy Zero isn't exactly unknown, given the fact that they do the theme song for Smallville and have appeared on numerous other soundtracks. 71.232.25.117 19:48, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jessica Simpson?

I added his comment to the suggestion that he would be dating jessica simpson. Just saying he is "linked to her" kind of implies that it is actually true. I find that hard to believe actually. --Looskuh 21:11, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Not Necessarily Leaving Scrubs

Zach Braff has not actually confirmed that he will leave Scrubs. He said that this is the first year it is his choice, because his contract is up. That is what I read in an interview he gave to newsday. So that should be corrected. (Corrie2723 03:49, 25 September 2006 (UTC))

[edit] "Best Know For"

The article states that he's best known for his apperance on Scrubs...but actuall he became more popular after Garden State, so wouldn't that be what he's best known for? --Chitomcgee 05:09, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Punk'd phrasing

This isn't even proper English:

"In 2005, Braff was on Punk'd, after being tricked by Ashton Kutcher and Scrubs co-star Donald Faison, after Braff had to deal with a gang of kids led by Rob Pinkston, who vandalized Braff's brand new $100,000 Porsche with fake spray paint when Braff and Faison declined to buy them some beer."

It's a huge, run-on sentence. It uses the word "after" twice. I rephrased it to be grammatically correct:

"In 2005, Braff was Punk'd by Ashton Kutcher and Scrubs co-star Donald Faison. A gang of kids led by Rob Pinkston vandalized Braff's brand new $100,000 Porsche with fake spray paint when Braff and Faison declined to buy them some beer."

Yet the anonymous user who wrote it insists on reverting to his poorly-worded sentence. This anonymous user's entire editing history consists of reporting celebrities' appearances on Punk'd, often in a confusing manner. When people fix his grammar, he repeatedly reverts them. This is your chance to explain why you're doing this. Thanks. Rhobite 00:15, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

To be honest, I think the whole paragraph should be removed. So what, Zach Braff got punk'd. Who cares? I'd throw it out, but I'm not really in the mood for an edit war today. Someone, anyone, who wants to go first? Jondor 14:19, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I think it's okay to mention he was on the show, but there really isn't any need for all the details. --Fritz Saalfeld 12:21, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

But what point does mentioning that he was on Punk'd serve? If this is actually useful information, it deserves a proper paragraph. If it's not (which I would tend to agree with), we shouldn't include it at all.Neilc 00:50, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

I saw the whole thing when Braff got Punk'd. Donald Faison really went up to Ashton Kutcher and said "Listen, We got to get Zach Braff" and Ashton Kutcher said "Alright, let's do it." So his Punk'd appearence will not be erased at any circumstances.

You have ignored the comments above, and saying that your content "will not be erased at any (sic) circumstances" doesn't help. I suggest listening to what people have suggested (i.e. the Punk'd appearance is not relevant); if you disagree, tell us why you think the Punk'd appearance is relevant, don't just blindly revert the page. Neilc 08:02, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
Can I interject an outside opinion on this debate over Zach's appearance on Punk'd? It's not a well written sentence, I'll give you that. It is somewhat notable that he appeared on the show - in that it's a television appearance and that sort of thing is listed on other celebrity film/tv-ography sections. It's not a hugely important piece of biographical information, but certainly isn't "unworthy" of inclusion in a properly-written sentence or two. --ABQCat 10:11, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
It is listed in the Filmography, and I think that should take care of the whole Punk'd issue. I don't think it's noteworthy enough to justify additional inclusion, especially as the article itself is quite short right now. Plus, I think any further mentioning of it will be turned into that ridiculous, grammar-lacking, over-linked sentence again. --Fritz Saalfeld 10:23, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
Well, articles can't grow in a perfectly balanced manner. If, proportionately, the Punk'd section is too long, instead of removing the sentence, it should be motivation to beef-up the rest of the article. Just a thought. --ABQCat 08:46, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
If you concede that, proportionately, said Punk'd section is too long, then it should be as much motivation to you as to anybody else. According to your own theory, that is. So feel free to beef up the rest for all it's worth. Just a thought. --Jondor 13:09, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
And it is. But lacking the time currently, and seeing as the folks having the discussion here seem to have plenty of time to revert, re-add, and argue, I figured they might be able to just re-direct some of that energy and time towards improving the overall article. If no one else does it first, I'm sure I'll get to it at some point here, but these people clearly have a little more time than I do. --ABQCat 17:13, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
I still don't see why the content is relevant. So Braff was on Punk'd -- so what? It's not like a verbose recounting of the events of the episode sheds any light on Braff's career or character. IMHO listing it in the filmography is plenty (although I suppose even that could be argued against -- it's not like he was "acting" when he appeared on the show, and AFAIK he wasn't paid for it either). Is this horse dead yet? :) Neilc 21:12, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
Here's hoping that this horse is dead, cremated and buried. However, I'd like to encourage you, ABQCat, to extend the article. I wrote Zach Braff's biography at the German Wikipedia, and it's time you guys step up and try to match that for one of your own. I don't think babelfishing it would help much, but you might find the sources useful, that I linked to on the associated talk page. --Jondor 23:45, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
I re-added a note on this, which I thought interesting episode. ~~

I think someone should file an Requests for comment/User conduct about this guy. He doesn't seem to stop adding the paragraph; and he does that on all the articles for celebrities who appeared on Punk'd... --Fritz Saalfeld 10:17, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

Perhaps the user with the propensity to add Punk'd info mightwant to include those short sentences about each of the punk'd situations. That could be more useful.--964267sr 01:39, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Who cares about proper English. i know i don't.--Kingforaday1620 22:32, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

This is an encyclopedia - therefore, proper English is very important. If you'd like to work on a project where you don't need to worry about proper grammar, or the validity of the subject matter that you're writing about, perhaps setting up your own Myspace page would be a much better match. [edit] Full name

Curious, the IMDB lists it now as "Zachary Ivan Braff". Does anyone know if that's true, or is the IMDB makin' stuff up again? Mad Jack O'Lantern 00:39, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Today on the Independent Spirit Awards (2/24/07), Zach was presenting with America Ferrera and announced his middle name is Israel (he was commenting how it's interesting they are both named after countries). Mark 15:33, 24 February 2007 (PST)
He's a humorist, so I wouldn't cite that as a reliable source, especially considering the "coincidence" and the fact that he was using it to set up a joke. Or it could be that his Hebrew name is Yitzchak Yisrael Braff or Yisrael Braff or something like that. Calbaer 20:59, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re-do

Did they re-punk him?--Kingforaday1620 22:36, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

As far as I know he only appeared on the show once. And either way, it should not have it's own section in the article... It certainly isn't such an important part of his biography. --Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 11:08, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
I think its in fact very important. He is a no-talent cultural parasite who has done nothing but imitate the MTV created slacker generation. The very fact his popularity has enriched him so thoroughly he would engage in flagrant consipicuous consumption and physically harm those he knew were less fortunate than himself proves he is a man unworthy of praise or respect. It is made all the more comical that it is the losers of America who have fueled this monster's rise to fame.
We need to expose more of the hypocricy of our new gods, until a proper leadership classes arises to rid the world of filth like him. I hope he enjoys that Porsche. Wealth and power will certainly not be his forever.Martin Heidegger 19:12, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

If he got punk'd in the fourth season how come it says that he was punk'd in September of '06?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kingforaday1620 (talkcontribs) .

Apparently the person who added that was a little confused because his appearance recently made the news again after he mentioned it on Late Night with Conan O'Brien last week... --Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 08:10, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Criticism section

Isn't he often criticized for being one dimensional? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arthurian Legend (talkcontribs) .

[edit] Coldplay an unknown band?

Whaaaat???

[edit] OCD & Anxiety Disorders

Why on earth is there information relating to his being on an episode of Punk'd yet there is nothing regarding his self confessed ODC and anxiety disorders??

"My anxiety revs more than the average person's, like an engine that's revving too high," Braff says. He remembers being diagnosed with OCD when he was 10.

"At those times in my life when I'm really experiencing it, it's like your needle's always in red. I've described it to someone who's never experienced it [as] like when you've been in a car accident and your heart is racing."

"I see the times with depression or anxiety, it's thinking too much," Braff says. "It's over-analysing everything."

He gestures at a cup on the table.

"Getting sad that someone's got to clean that coffee cup and how much their life must suck because they're working in a hotel in the middle of Sydney while I'm in the suite, and they probably have to struggle to get that coffee cup clean and they've probably got lots of kids.

"That's what my mind would do ... obsess about a topic that had nothing to do with my life at the moment, and would unravel and unspool, obsessing about that topic."

Does anyone else have trouble reading ANYTHING Zach says, such as the quotes above, without imagining it in his JD voice over voice? JayKeaton 10:28, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fwoosher?

This was on the page regarding Zach. Apparently it was removed just as I went to edit it myself.

"Also of note, Braff was once punched in the face by the almighty Fwoosher ChurchOfZod, known to underlings and former loved ones as CoZ. I guess crime doesn't pay, huh, Zach?"

Any idea what the hell this is about in the first place? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by EJDrake (talk • contribs) 02:44, 4 January 2007 (UTC).
