Zabulistan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zabulistan (Persian: زابلستان‎ ) or Zabolestan is a historical region in the border area of today's Iran and Afghanistan, around the city Zabol. The region is - by modern definition - located between the cities Farah (Afghanistan) and Zahedan (Iran).

The name probably covered in ancient times a much larger area, because still today a province of Afghanistan (at the border to Pakistan), at the foot of the Hindukush, is called Zabul.

According to Persian mythology, Zabulistan was the country of Iranian hero Rostam. In Shahnameh, Zabulistan and Sistan are used interchangeably.
