Yvonne Matthew

Yvonne Matthew is an Australian actor.

Originally a model for advertising and fashion magazines in Sydney, Yvonne studied at the Independent Theatre taking part in several productions and play readings and has worked extensively in Sydney theatre productions in lead and support roles.

Her credits include Audrey, lead role of the wife in the American comedy “Three Men On A Horse” and various character roles in “Chapel Perilous” at the Sydney Opera House, Angelique in Moliere’s “Imaginary Invalid” and Clara in “Pygmalion” at the Queensland State Theatre Company, then “Hamlet” in the spoof adult pantomime at the Cement Box Theatre at Queensland University. Yvonne has played Sylvia the comedy lead in “She’s Done It Again” at the Westpoint Casino Theatre in Hobart, Tasmania and was one of the four Glitter Sisters in the forties musical revue show also in Hobart. Gwendolyn in the American comedy “The Odd Couple” and Gloria in the American musical “Mame”, both at leading theatres in two year runs – Australian capital city tours and the comedy role of the French maid in “Diplomatic Baggage” for a year’s season. Also Avril in the northern comedy “Semi-Detached” at the Newcastle Theatre, N.S.W. Dol Common in “The Alchemist”, Ariel in “The Tempest”, comic mime performer linking scenes as one of the servants in “Servant of Two Masters”, Bianca in “Othello”, Clara in “Italian Straw Hat”, Diana in “French Without Tears”. Betty in “The Crucible”.

Yvonne has had a great deal of experience in Sydney children’s theatre production. Alice in “Alice in Wonderland”, Bo Peep in “Santa’s Christmas Party”, Maid Marion in “Robin Hood”, Beauty in “Beauty and The Beast” at Marion Street Theatre, Sydney and Gretchen in “Rumpelstiltskin” for the Elizabethan Theatre Trust. Many productions for the Australian Theatre for Young People playing fairy tale and animal character roles and various children’s plays.

Successful long running theatre productions at the Music Hall at Neutral Bay as the heroine Lucy in “The Spring Heeled Terror of Stepney Green” and the heroine in “The Dreadful Fate of H.M.S. Revenge”. A six months New South Wales tour of Kate in the musical theatre restaurant production “The Bard’s Banquet” a comedy spoof of “Taming of the Shrew”. Similarly two and a half years season at “Roman Scandals Theatre Restaurant” production of “Up The Gladiators” and “Fiddle in the Forum” – again a 2 year run, both roles being Barbara Windsor type characters. At the Manly Music Loft in Sydney Yvonne was one of a cast of four featuring comedy revue sketches and popular songs.

Many lead, support and character roles in Sydney radio productions for period and straight drama, education and religious programmes, together with radio serials and a great variety of children’s serials. Yvonne specialises also in children’s and animated cartoon voices and has worked extensively in a variety of television commercials, training films and voice over work in Sydney.

On Sydney television, Yvonne was a regular guest star in police series for Crawford Productions, Melbourne in “Homicide”, “Division 4” “Matlock”, “Hunter”, “Linkmen”, “Cop Shop” usually cast as manipulative executives, various styles of call girls and hardened criminals, glamorous mistresses etc. She played Lucy in an ABC production of “The Recruiting Officer” and again several fairytale roles in televised children’s productions. For the Grundy Organisation, episodes of “Young Doctors”, a six weeks season in “The Restless Years” as the selfish neurotic wife, episodes of “Prisoner Cell Block H” and for PBL productions Channel 10, Sydney the promiscuous wife Andrea in “Kings”. Educational programmes and trade films. Sketches as the daffy blonde in comedy variety TV. A great many Sydney television commercials.

In England Yvonne has toured for three months with the first “Prisoner Cell Block H” production playing several performances as Fergie, the sadistic warder, Kate the schoolteacher and Bea Smith.

She played Doreen for three months in the second production of “Prisoner” for a successful and popular tour of England, Scotland and Wales.

Yvonne is booked to play Phoebe in the UK premiere play reading of the cult Australian farce Second Hand Dreams at the Jermyn Street Theatre in London's West End on 19th January 2007. She is represented by the theatrical agents Darren Gray Management.
