[edit] Editing Shortcuts
[edit] If Unreferenced
If an article needs references but you are unable to find them yourself, you can tag the article with the templates {{Unreferenced}}, {{Not verified}}, or {{Primarysources}}. It's often useful to indicate specific statements that need references by placing {{fact}} ("citation needed") after the sentence.
[edit] For Bad Layout
use {{wikify}}, this tells the readers that this page is incorrectly formatted and to format it as suggested in the Guide to layout and the Manual of Style. When using Wikify place the month and year afterwards, {{wikify|November 2006}}.
To mark an article as a stub use {{stub}} or to mark it for expantion use {{expand}}. To mark a "section" as a stub use the tag {{sectstub}} or {{section stub}}. To request that a "section" is expanded (This is done if the section has all the main information but needs to be expanded to be comprehensive), you can use {{expandsect}}.
[edit] Adverts
if an article or part of an article reads as an advert either use {{advert}} which tells the user "To meet Wikipedia's quality standards and comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, this article or section may require cleanup. This article or section reads like an advertisement.
If the article contains blatant advertising it can be marked for speedy deletion with {{db-spam}}.
[edit] Neutrality
If the neutrality of an article or section of an article are disputed place this in the disputed section {{npov}}
[edit] Deletion
- to mark an article for deletion add, {{subst:prod|Write concern here}}, Once marked and saved prod will automatically be "dated" and filled out, this is generated by the "subst:prod|- - - - (reason)"
- For articles such as biographys of people of little significance or bands or websites or companys etc.. {{db-bio}} which says something along the lines of "This page may meet Wikipedia’s criteria for speedy deletion. The given reason is: it is an article about a person, group of people, band, club, company or website that does not assert the importance or significance of the subject"
- {{db-bio}}- above paragraph
- {{db-spam}}- for blatant advertising
- {{db-corp}}- an article about a company or corporation that does not assert the importance or significance of the subject.
- {{db-nonsense}}- for nonsense articles
[edit] Original reasearch
{{SectOR}} marks the article/ section as unverifiable because it may be original research. it says "This section may contain original research or unverified claims."
[edit] Major Edit
{{inuse}} this tells all users who view the page that the article is undergoing a major edit and asks them not to edit for the time being.
[edit] Welcome Message
{{subst:welcome}} this can be placed in the disscussion of new users to welcome them to wikipedia and help them learn how to use it (remember to sign it, it does not sign itself)
