Yukiko Kitano
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yukiko Kitano (北野雪子 Kitano Yukiko?) is a character in the novel Battle Royale, and the film and manga of the same name. In the English-language manga she is nicknamed Yuki.
In the film she was played by Yukari Kanasawa.
Yukiko has a blood type of O.
While Yukiko has the same surname as the teacher Kitano and the teacher's daughter, Shiori Kitano, Yukiko is not related to either of the two.
[edit] Pre-Program
Yukiko Kitano is one of the class of third-year students at the fictional Shiroiwa Junior High School in the fictional town of Shiroiwa (the novel and manga set the town in Kagawa Prefecture, while the film sets the town in the Kanagawa Prefecture). She was a member of the Halo Church, which was where she met her best friend, Yumiko Kusaka. Yumiko and Yukiko were inseparable, and although they both attended the church, neither was very devoted to the religion - they saw it more as a social meeting. They shared everything, and one time clubbed together to buy a pair of earrings they both liked, keeping one earring each. Yukiko was very domesticated, and loved to make cakes for Yumiko. She was very concerned about other people's opinions of her. Yukiko had a crush on Shuya Nanahara.
[edit] During The Program
Yukiko meets with Yumiko after leaving the school (due to the fact boy 7 Yoshitoki Kuninobu dies, Yumiko is the next person out after Yukiko), and the two make their way to the former tourist information centre on the eastern slopes of the north mountain. The two girls chat and discuss who they have crushes on, and realise that they could not bear to kill each other. Thinking that many of their classmates must feel the same, they make an announcement over a megaphone, calling for their classmates to meet them and discuss things as a group. The announcements alert Kazuo Kiriyama to their location. Kiriyama creeps up on them and shoots both of them with his machine gun. In the novel and manga, he finishes off both with a gunshot to the head using Mitsuru's Walther PPK.
In the film, Yukiko immediately dies after the initial round of gunfire, while Yumiko survives this round. Yumiko cries in pain as Kazuo holds the megaphone to her mouth. Then Kazuo finishes her with several gunshots to the stomach.
Yukiko was supplied with a dartboard and a pack of darts for her weapon, as indicated in promotional material released in Japan.
