This needs to be rewritten. The mining companies were after the gold in the alluvial deposits under the slickens. There is essentially no gold in the slickens. I know because I looked. That may be true, but that's what we consider original research here. Unfortunately the published sources don't say anything about that. howcheng {chat} 03:17, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
