Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Duel Academy

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Duel Academy, known as Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Mezase Duel King! (遊戯王デュエルモンスターズGX めざせデュエルキング! Yūgiō Dyueru Monsutāzu GX Dyueru Kingu!) in Japan, is a video game created by Konami for the Game Boy Advance. It is based on the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise.

The game starts off with the main character meeting Chancellor Shepperd (Sameshima in the Japanese version). From there the player meets Jaden Yuki (Judai Yuki in the Japanese version), the best Slifer Red (Osiris Red) student, and his friends Syrus Truesdale (Sho Marufuji) and Chumley Huffington (Hayato Maeda). The player also meets the professor of Slifer Red, Lyman Banner (Daitokuji). In order to meet other people, the main character must trigger certain events such as entering Ra Yellow.

  • Judai Yuki (遊城 十代 Yūki Jūdai) / Jaden Yuki: The best Slifer Red and friends with Chumley and Syrus.
  • Sho Marufuji (丸藤 翔 Marufuji Shō) / Syrus Truesdale: The younger brother of Zane Truesdale and friends with Jaden and Chumley.
  • Hayato Maeda (前田 隼人 Maeda Hayato) / Chumley Huffington: A student who has flunked many times. He will visit the player if the player is in Slifer Red and the player hasn't left his room for three days.
  • Asuka Tenjouin (天上院 明日香 Tenjōin Asuka) / Alexis Rhodes: An Obelisk Blue and considered the queen of Duel Academy.
  • Ryo Marufuji (丸藤 亮 Marufuji Ryō) / Zane Truesdale: Met through a duel with Syrus. He is the best of Duel Academy. Many consider him the king of Duel Academy.
  • Jun Manjoume (万丈目 準 Manjōme Jun) / Chazz Princeton: An Obelisk Blue who looks down at other people.
  • Cronos de Medici (クロノス・デ・メディチ Kuronosu de Medichi) / Dr. Vellian Crowler: Professor of Obelisk Blue and thinks that only the strong should be in Duel Academy.
  • Daichi Misawa (三沢 大地 Misawa Daichi) / Bastion Misawa: A Ra Yellow and best in the entrance exams.

  • Rei Saotome (早乙女レイ Saotome Rei) / Blair Flannigan: A 2nd grader posing as an exchange student. Also a girl pretending to be a boy.
  • Kagurazaka (神楽坂) / Dimitri : A duelist who steals Yugi Muto 's deck.
  • Kohara (小原) / Brier : A boy in on the duel giant scheme.
  • Ohara (大原 Ōhara) / Beauregard : A rather large student in on the duel giant scheme.
  • Takadera (高寺) / Torrey : An Obelisk Blue who summoned Jinzo.
  • Taira Taizan (大山平 Taizan Taira) / Damon : A boy who never drew what he wanted so he went to live in the jungle.

There are ranks in the game that usually determines who you can duel with. Some of them are as follows.

  • Dropout Boy : The lowest rank.
  • Apprentice Duelist: The rank the player starts with.
  • Average Duelist: The rank the player obtains after he wins 10 duels and passes an exam.
  • Fiery Duelist: The rank the player obtains after he wins 30 duels and passes the exam.
  • Calm Duelist: The rank the player obtains after he wins 30 duels and solved 50 timed duels.
  • Superior Duelist: The rank the player obtains after he wins 50 duels and solves 50 timed duels.
  • Elite Duelist: The rank the player obtains after he wins 100 duels.
  • Prince of Games: The rank the player obtains after collecting all 1200 cards, passing 40% of the written exams.
  • King of Games: The rank the player obtains after reaching Prince of Games, beating all 20 duelists 10 times each, having 200+ duels won, and passing 60% of the written exams.

There are monthly exams which determine the player's rank and dormitory. There are ways the player can get exemptions from the exams.

Exams consist of 3 sections;

1. Written Exam- 10 questions (10 pts each, +0.5% written completion per correct answer)

2. Skill Exam- Random unlocked Timed Duel (100 pts, -10 pts per restart)

3. Practical Exam- Changes monthly (300 pts)

  • Spells- use spell cards during the duel (30 pts per spell)
  • Traps- use trap cards during the duel (30 pts per trap)
  • Direct Damage- deal direct damage during the duel (ie. not damage through battle)
  • Battle- focus on battle (dealing battle damage and destroying monsters) during the duel
  • Fusion Summons- Fusion Summon monsters during the duel (50 pts per Fusion Summon)
  • Ritual Summons- Ritual Summon monsters during the duel (60 pts per Ritual Summon)
  • Special Summons- Special Summon monsters during the duel (30 pts per Special Summon)

As traditional with Yu-Gi-Oh! games, the game comes with three promo cards that can't be found anywhere else. The cards in this game are:
