Ytraberget

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ytraberget is a penincula in Hafrsfjord in Sola Kommune, Norway. Ytraberget is connected to Indraberget, and it divides Sørnesvågen and Grannesvågen. Harold Fairhair (ca. 865-ca. 933) fought the Battle of Hafrsfjord in 872 A.D. In the Saga by Sonrre a little isle is mentioned as the location where King Kjodve fled. The little isle is probably Ytraberget, because at high tides the small area connecting Ytraberget with Indraberget is flooded. On the top of the hill there is a plateau about 100 x 50 m. This is the area where the old bronzage fortifications (Bygdeborg) is. There is three, maybe four buildings that was a part of the ruined castle, all about 8 x 5 m. On the top of Ytraberget there is a monumet erected in 1972 by King Olav for the 1100-year anniversary for the Battle of Hafrsfjord. There is good fishing and swiming possibilitys at Ytraberget.
