[edit] Location
Yport is located at about thirty kilometers north of Le Havre, on the coast of the English Channel
[edit] History
The site was probably occupied during the neolithic period, and later the Pays de Caux was inhabited by the Caletes. During the Roman time, a road connecting Fécamp to Étretat passed through the locality Pitron Fund from where a junction towards the village existed. Current D940 took again the layout of this Roman way. The Roman presence was discovered following various archaeological excavations but nothing proves that it was permanently inhabitated. It may have been only a fishing site. Starting from the Early Middle Ages the village was attached to Criquebeuf-in-Caux, where the church, the cemetery and the school were, several kilometers away from Yport. Only in the 19th century the commune of Yport came into existence, in particular with the construction of the church. Officially, the commune of Yport is created on January 1, 1843, its first mayor is Jean-baptiste Feuilloley. The 19th century marks also the beginning of the rise of fishing. Many people are attracted by this employment and the population reaches 1800. The sea front thus evolved/moved much during this period.
During the 19th century baths came into fashion, and Yport did not escape from it. In 1849 and 1884, the village was hit by a cholera epidemy. Fishing disappeared, like everywhere on the Côte d'Albâtre. The pace of the village of fisherman however changed only very little. Indeed, which makes live Yport is primarily the casino, in edge of sea, and tourism. A large carpark replaced the caloges, while gastronomical tourism made its appearance.
