Yozi (Exalted)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Yozis are characters unique to the world of Exalted and are among the most powerful beings in both First Edition and Second Edition for Exalted.

[edit] Overview

In the beginning, there was nothing but chaos and the Primordials, from whom all Creation sprang. They created the world and all things in it. When they had created everything that they had intended to create of the natural world, they created the Incarna and hosts of lesser spirits to serve them and maintain Creation while they played their Games of Divinity. Chief among the Incarna was the Unconquered Sun. After a time, the gods grew discontent with their servitude and they rose up against the Primordials to take their place and play the Games of Divinity for themselves. Unfortunately, the gods could not lift a hand against the Primordials, and so the Unconquered Sun said to the rest of the gods, "Let us take men and give them the favor of the gods and use them as our champions against the Primordials, that we might overthrow them and play for ourselves the Games of Divinity." The other gods agreed and so the Unconquered Sun, along with Luna, the Five Maidens and the Five Elemental Dragons created heroes to fight against the Primordials, those touched by the Unconquered Sun being chief among them.

During the Primordial War, some of the Primordials were slain by the Exalted, and with their last breaths, they placed the Great Curse upon the Exalted, which lead to the ending of the First Age. Those Primordials that were slain are now known as the Neverborn. The Primordials who surrendered were made to swear oaths on their own names and were banished into the body of one of their brothers, the general Malfeas. These Primordials are not permitted to enter Creation any longer, but they seek to escape their prison and take revenge upon the gods and their Exalted servitors. These Primordials are known as the Yozis.

[edit] Known Yozis

  • Adorjan, The Silent Wind. He blows throughout Malfeas and slays all lesser living things that he touches, leaving silence in his wake.
  • Cecelyne was one of the Yozis imprisoned at the end of the Primordial War, Cecelyne is at the very edges of Malfeas and she continues on to the edges of infinity outside of him. All who enter or leave Malfeas, no matter their speed or direction, must travel five days across Cecelyne before they may reach any destination in Creation or return to any destination in Malfeas.
  • Cytherea, The Mother of Creation. Some have interpreted this to mean that she is the mother, or perhaps former lover of the Primordial, Gaia.
  • The Ebon Dragon is said to be the most sadistic of the Yozi, he is charged with finding a way to free them of their imprisonment. His victims are afflicted with a terrible agony when exposed to any light. He recently captured the Scarlet Empress and plans to marry her, no doubt part of some nefarious scheme.
    • Souls:
      • Erembour, That Which Calls to the Shadows.
        • Alveua, Expressive, Keeper of the Forge of Night.
          • Firmin, the Needlemaker.
          • Sesselja, the Stomach Bottle Bug.
        • Makarios, Warden, the Sigil's Dreamer.
          • Chrysogona, the Crying Woman.
      • Euthychia, The Bull Slain on Stagnation's Altar.
  • Hegra, The Typhoon of Nightmares. Her clouds and storms are composed of the fear and terror that plague sleepers.
  • Isidoros, The Black Boar that Twists the Skies.
  • Kimbery's title is The Sea that Marched Against the Flame, and she is known to exist beneath the surface of Malfeas. Her blood - or perhaps the blood of demons beneath her - exists today in highly diluted form in the Lintha Pirates. Most of her souls are unknown, though one is titled as The Tide that Knows No Life, and one of the second-circle souls of this has been reshaped into Dukantha's warship. From this second circle demon spring the Eristrufa.
  • Malfeas was the greatest general of the Primordials during the Primordial War. Defeated and bound by the Exalted his body now comprises the prison of Hell where the Yozis reside (as opposed to those slain, i.e. the Neverborn). His very body is an ever shifting, living city.
  • Oramus, The Dragon Beyond the World.
  • Sacheverell, He Who Knows The Shape Of Things To Come.
  • She Who Lives In Her Name is the Yozi who most resented her imprisonment. She detonated three of her flaming orbs just before being sealed into Malfeas, destroying much of Creation in the process.
    • Souls:
      • Munaxes, the Ravine of Whispers.
        • Octavian, Defining, the Living Tower.
          • Luminitia, the Deer That Hunts The Man.
          • Tomescu, the Clamorous Cloud Arsenal.
        • Stanewald, Reflective, She Who Surmounted the Omphalos.
  • Szoreny, The Silver Forest. He/she resides on the border of Kimbery, and his/her trees grow with their roots in the sky rather than the ground.
