Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies (also known as YMSS or Youthmovies) are an English "prog-post-mathcore-rock-stuff" quartet, comprising of Andrew Mears (guitar and vocals), Al English (guitar, synths and samplers), Graeme Murray (drums), Stephen "Hamm" Hammond (bass) and Sam Scott (trumpet).
Their earlier sound included blasts of cathartic noise mingled menacingly with brooding soundscapes, spoken-word samples and a sharp canopy of feedback, drone and nerve-chilling atmospherics, though with their full length album Hurrah! Another Year, Surely This One Will Be Better Than the Last; The Inexorable March of Progress Will Lead Us All to Happiness and the subsequent single "Ores" their sounds suggest they are moving into a more accessible post-rock sound.
The band has toured extensively with Hope of the States, 65daysofstatic and ¡Forward, Russia!. They have also played at the Truck Festival, Latitude Festival, All Tomorrow's Parties, and the Reading and Leeds festivals.
They're starting work on their new album in January and will be recording in Leicester.
