[edit] Synopsis
Frank Beardsley is a widower US Coast Guard Rear Admiral and superintendent of the United States Coast Guard Academy raising 8 kids. Helen North is a widowed fashion designer raising 10 kids. When the two, who were high school sweethearts, meet up again at their school's thirty-year reunion, they fall in love and promptly marry, causing much displeasure within their suddenly-mixed family of 18 children. [edit] Reception
When faced off on Thanksgiving against family films (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line) it almost failed to find an audience. It opened at number three, with an opening weekend of $17,461,108 in the US. Its final US gross is $53,359,917, and a worldwide gross of $68,759,917. With a production budget of $45,000,000 , the film proved to fare well.
The remake was panned by critics worse than the original. Roger Ebert, a fan of the original bashed the remake badly. Other critics felt a remake was not needed, and that Rene Russo was nowhere near the league of Lucille Ball. Though some critics agreed that it did follow the basic plot of the original, it still lacked its predecessor's comedic touch. On Rottentomatoes, the remake stands at 5% against 50% that the original holds. Both of them, however, are considered "rotten." Some positive reviews stated how it was nice to be refreshed with a remake, similar to how Cheaper By The Dozen was remade. That film, however, did a lot better financially and critically. It is currently unknown if a sequel of the remake is planned, similar to how there was a Cheaper By The Dozen 2.
[edit] Trivia
- Drake Bell and Miranda Cosgrove also act as brother and sister on the Nickelodeon show Drake & Josh.
- Sean Faris was immediately cast as William Beardsley because of his "upright military posture".
- The house when both families collide under one roof is shot at the Disney Ranch. All the trees on the right side were digitally removed and the water was digitally added.
- Mrs. Munion, Linda Hunt, is digitally added by green screen at the beginning when Frank asks her how New London is.
- Christian alternative rock band Hawk Nelson played the role of the party band in the film.
- There are also many similarities between Yours, Mine and Ours and Cheaper By The Dozen, except one has 12 children and another, 18.
- On one scene it showed on tv an episode of WWE Monday Night Raw with one of the commentators saying "Batista hit a Batista bomb on the 326 pound Kane!".And it also shown a footage of a WWE ppv with a commentator saying " Kane hit Benoit with the ladder(at Wrestlemania 21)
