Young Muslims

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Young Muslims is an Islamic organization aimed at the Muslim Youth between the ages of 14-25. In North America, they have a presence in both Canada and the United States. They have influence on Muslim Youth in several US cities and towns. The organization has neighbornets (which means network of neighbors) across the United States and Canada. in particular Muslim communities. Each nighbornet is a dynamic youth group which attempts to build a solid understanding of the principles of Islam amongst its members by helping them put these principles into practice. There are an abundant amount of neighbornets located in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, and California. Young Muslims focuses on giving dawah to Muslim Youth through neighbornets. They educate Muslim Youth on Islam, train them to take on a leadership role, and provide an alternative to the negative influences in the communities in which they reside. By providing the youth with an Islamic atmosphere where they can form bonds of brotherhood with their peers, they become comfortable with Islam and its teachings.

YM believes strongly that Muslim youth in the west have a responsibility to be productive citizens in the countries in which they reside, to benefit their communities and their society as a whole. YM places emphasis on achieving the ideals of:

1. Knowledge - The development of a strong foundation of knowledge at both the religious and secular levels. 2. Spirituality - A strong connection with God and the development of a character of moral integrity, truth, gentleness, kindness, patience, and sincerity, based on the example of the Prophet Muhammad. To develop a character which can interact with society in such a way that everything that comes into contact with such a person is given some benefit. 3. Activism - That a person be active in helping their communities in the areas of social work and education, and in any other way in which a community may need help.

Young Muslims organizations exist in several countries, and although they have broadly the same aims and approach to Islamic revival, each country's Young Muslims organization is independent and they do not share a common leadership.
