Youmacon is an anime convention held annually in Troy, Michigan during November.[1] A relatively small convention compared to others in the Midwestern United States, Youmacon's inaugural year brought a variety of guests together from various facets of anime and Japanese culture inspired fandom. These guests included well known American voice actors in Japanese animation, American television and film actors, professional and fan-based music performers, and comic artists and creators.

[edit] History
Youmacon's inaugural convention took place on November 11–13, 2005 at the Detroit Hilton in Troy, Michigan. Guests of Honor included Kristine Sa, Johnny Yong Bosch, Eyeshine, The Spoony Bards, Yuri Lowenthal, Caitlin Glass, Vic Mignogna, Chris Violette, Bruse Kalish, Monica May, Alycia Purrott, Greg Aronowitz, Robert and Emily DeJesus, and Dave Anez (creator of Bob and George).[2]
Like the first year, the Youmacon 2006 was also held at the Detroit Hilton on November 3–5, 2006. Among the Guests of Honor included former professional wrestler "Captain" Lou Albano. Albano's presence was accredited to his role as the face and voice of Mario in the animation/live action The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!.[3]
[edit] Events
Like many Japanese anime conventions, Youmacon includes a cosplay competition and masquerade for congoers to display their costumes. Youmacon also has an extensive video game collection, and at their inaugural convention reportedly had 26 different video games available for guests to play.[4] Youmacon 2005 also had fan panels on popular Japanese anime series such as Full Metal Alchemist, InuYasha, Bleach, Naruto, as well as panels examining J-rock, Japanese fashion, and webcomics.[5]
[edit] Events Unique to Youmacon
During its inaugural year, Youmacon greatly pushed support for an event called Cosplay Shougi. Cosplay Shougi intended to use congoers who were dressed as anime, manga, and video game characters as "living pieces" of a shougi game. In addition, Youmacon states they will be adding a Maid Café, a tribute to the cosplay restaurants found in the Akihabara district of Tokyo, Japan.[citation needed]
