You Light Up My Life (song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is not to be confused with Carole King's song from Fantasy.

"You Light Up My Life" was a song written by Joseph Brooks and performed by Kasey Cisyk. Debby Boone's 1977 recording of the title song was a massive success, topping the U.S. charts for ten weeks and also reaching #1 adult contemporary and #4 country. Cisyk's own recording charted soon after, although it only reached #80 on the Billboard charts and was credited to the film's "Original Cast" instead of Cisyk herself.

Among the artists who have covered "You Light Up My Life" since include Robert Goulet (who performed it live at the 1978 Miss Universe Pageant), Patti Smith (performing it in 1979 on the television program Kids Are People Too), LeAnn Rimes (whose 1997 version was a gold-certified single and the title cut of Rimes' hit album that year), Whitney Houston, Bianca Ryan and in Westlife's upcoming album The Love Album, and Loleatta Holloway

It was included in the soundtrack for the film You Light Up My Life, where it received the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
