The story revolves around the adventures of Natsumi Tsujimoto and Miyuki Kobayakawa, two female members of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, stationed at the fictional Bokuto Police Precient located at Sumida-ku, Tokyo. The series is largely episodic, and much of it focuses on the interaction between the main characters and the humorous supporting cast.

[edit] Live Action Drama

The Live Action Drama of You're Under Arrest adapted the main characters while adding new characters over the course of the 9 episode series. The opening theme song is called Galaxy by Nana Katase and the closing theme is Through the Rain by Mariah Carey. The drama also advances the romantic relationships of the main characters, and it appears as if the producers of this drama, were giving the fans what they have always wanted.

Miyuki Kobayakawa: Is played by actress Sachie Hara, and the character is much like as she is depicted in the various anime and manga sources. Though she does appear to be a little more headstrong and more sure of herself. She still loves Ken, and though she finds it difficult to express this, she doesn't take as long to act upon her feelings (especially given the 9 episode length of the drama).

Natsumi Tsujimoto: Is played by actress Misaki Ito, and the character is much like as she is depicted in the various anime and manga sources, however, she is never shown to have the ability to pick up extraordinary amounts of weight. Though she is depicted to be abnormally strong and athletic, she loses a fight in this live action version. She also develops a relationship with a character named Okabayashi Shunsuke and not Shouji Toukairin as in the anime versions. The actress chosen for this drama, was played against type, as Itou Misaki is normally considered a great beauty within Japan and has been the 'face' of Shiseido Cosmetics since 2000.

Ken Nakajima: Is played by actor Kazushige Nagashima and he is depicted much like he is in the various anime and manga sources. He still loves Miyuki and finds it difficult to tell her. Though their relationship takes a much larger step given the short length of the drama.

Shunsuke Okabayashi: Is played by actor Noboru Kaneko, and he is Natsumi's love interest in this version. He is depicted to have similar characteristics to Shouji Toukairin, though he is a suit-wearing, slightly uptight detective.

Yoriko Nikaido: Is played by actress Otoha, and the character is much like as she is depicted in the various anime and manga sources, however, in the opening episode she appears to be the 'leader' of the other young female officers in the office, and she has a somewhat antagonistic relationship with Miyuki and Natsumi. She seems to think and act as if all of the 'bad image' issues that Bokuto suffers from, is all Miyuki and Natsumi's fault. As the series develops, their relationship normalizes and becomes more like as it is depicted in the anime sources.

Saori Saga: Is played by the actress Miho Yoshioka, and other than name and certain mannerisms, is a different character that what is depicted in the various anime and manga sources. In the drama, she is the rookie policewoman, much as she is in the 2nd season of the anime, but, she does not have a previous history of having met anyone at Bokuto as a High School Student.
