"You're No Good" is the name of a song written by Clint Ballard, Jr., which provided soul and pop hits for Betty Everett in 1963, and twelve years later, topped the U.S. pop singles charts in a recording by Linda Ronstadt.
The song was first recorded and released by two female soul singers: Betty Everett and Dee Dee Warwick. Prior to recording this song, neither singer had garnered significant degrees of success. While Warwick's version got her some notice, it was ultimately eclipsed by the success of Everett's, which became a top ten hit on Billboard's R&B chart and also charted on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 1964, The Swinging Blue Jeans covered this song for the UK market. It became a major hit there and also experienced some success in the United States.
In 1974, Linda Ronstadt included a recording of "You're No Good" on her album Heart Like a Wheel. Released as a single, Ronstadt's version, which featured Andrew Gold on guitar, became a big hit in the United States, topping the Billboard Hot 100 in 1975. It was the singer's first and only song to reach the pole position on this chart. (Meanwhile, the single's "b" side, a duet with Emmylou Harris on Hank Williams' I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love With You)", reached the top ten on the U.S. country singles charts.)
