Yorkshire Traction was a bus company in Yorkshire. Yorkshire Traction was formed in 1928 when the Barnsley and District Tramway stopped running tramways and focused on its bus operations. Tracky, as the company was afectionally referred to was bought by Stagecoach on 15 December 2005 and its operations split between Stagecoach Yorkshire and Stagecoach Sheffield (Yorkshire Terrier).

Formed as a tram link in the Barnsley area, Yorkshire Traction moved over to Buses, and had a large number of routes, making it one of the largest independent bus operators in the UK. Failing public service, and a massive bill for modersation left the door open for a take-over bid by Stagecoach.

The Traction Group was formed in 1986, when Barnsley-based Yorkshire Traction was sold to its management and employees, led by Frank Carter. In 2000 Sheffield-based Yorkshire Terrier was formed to take over Andrews, South Riding, Sheffield Omnibus, Yorkshire Terrier and Kingsman, all in Sheffield, which all competed with Mainline in the City. Barnsley & District was formed in July 1990 when Traction bought Tom Jowitt Travel of Tankersley, which was enlarged in 1992 when Pride of The Road, Royston was purchased, and in 1995, when the operations of Globe of Barnsley were taken over.
