Yomari

Yomari is a delicacy of Newars. It consists of an external covering of rice-flour and an inner content of sweet substances such as Chaku. The delicacy plays a very important role in Newar society. According to some, the triangular shape of the yomari is symbolical represerntation of one half of shadkona, the symbol of Saraswati and wisdom[1].

The name yomari comes from two Nepal Bhasa words, "yo" meaning "to like" and "mari" meaning "delicacy". So, literally, its a delicacy which is liked very much.

- A full moon day of Nepal Sambat, the Nepalese lunar calendar, is called Yomari Punhi, in the name of this delicacy
- A very famous folk song of Nepal Bhasa "Yomari chaaku" is based on this delicacy
- A famous web-related company of Nepal called yomari.com is named after this delicacy
