Yob rock
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yob rock is an Australian genre of rock music. The term yob rock is derived from the term Yobbo. Focused on an overwhemingly male audience, the yob rock lyrics tend to deal with drinking, fighting, shooting and sex or sexual frustration. Bands classified as yob rock by music critics[citation needed] include Cosmic Psychos, The Onyas and The Vee Bees, Frenzal Rhomb and The Hard Ons.
Several music critics[citation needed] state that the origin of yob rock is classic 70s bands such as AC/DC, Rose Tattoo and The Angels as well as more musically complex and politically aware bands such as Hunters and Collectors and Midnight Oil.
