Yo-less

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yo-less is a fictional character in the popular Johnny Maxwell trilogy by Terry Pratchett.

[edit] Background and Family

From a Godly West Indian family (My mother spends more time in church than the pope. My Mother spends more time in church than God!), Yo-less is the fourth member of Johnny's gang. In Johnny and the Bomb he mentions that his grandfather came to Blackbury in 1952 when the nearby children thought the colour would come off if he washed. His mother is apparently a nurse.

[edit] Character

The most intelligent of the group, with perhaps the exception of Kirsty, he is often taunted by his nerdy and unstereotypical personality (You're just basically not black, are you?- Wobbler) being a firm fan of morris-dancing and brass bands.

His true side is shown mainly during Johnny and the Bomb, in which he is faced with racism from the people of 40s Blackbury and even, at a lesser extent, Kirsty.

[edit] Relationships

Yo-less seems to pity Johnny's mental state as well as Bigmac's hard life with his brother. He seems to tolerate Wobbler, but nothing more, while his best friend, it seems, strangely, is Kirsty. Both intelligent, both faced with prejudice in 1941 and both Star Trek fans they are unnaturally similar.
