The YMS-15 (MS-X10, MS-15) Gyan is a fictional weapon from the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam.

[edit] YMS-15 (MS-X10, MS-15) Gyan

Designed by Kunio Okawara. Gyan made appearance in episode 37 The Duel In Texas.

It's one of new model mobile suit developed by Zimmand Company for Principality of Zeon and a competitor to Zeonic Company's MS-14 Gelgoog. The Gyan was meant to fight along side Zimmand's previous MS-09 Dom and MS-09R Rick Dom. The Gyan's production was supervised Zeon's Captain M'Quve, who took one of the three prototype units as his own personal mobile suit. The Gyan has a head which bears a resemblance to the Pickelhaube helmet used by officers of the German Armed Forces during World War I and feet that look like the chain-mail used by medieval knights.

The YMS-15 Gyan was meant as a purely close-combat mobile suit with Zimmand's Doms providing the long-range support. The Gyan's primary weapon was a large beam sword. Its circular shield has 56 missiles launchers built into it and also held a dozen hide bombs and space mines. However, the Gyan only saw combat once, against the Earth Federation's RX-78-2 Gundam, in which it and Captain M'Quve were both destroyed.

In the Mobile Suit Gundam movie, which was released after the anime, the YMS-15 Gyan is absent.

Early Super Robot Wars series also include Gyan and Captain M'Quve as boss unit.

[edit] Variants

While original Gyan appear only once in TV series and got removed from compliation movie, it does spawn several variations in other media. When Mobile Suit Gundam F90 manga released in 1990, OMS-15RF RF Gyan is one of manga-exclusive mobile suit (it was absent in original model series that released in same year), designed by Rei Nakahara. The video game Mobile Suit Gundam: Giren's Greed, the player can choose to develop the Gyan instead of the Gelgoog. This results in several variant Gyans, paralleling the Gelgoogs seen in later entries to the Gundam series: the MS-15B High Mobility Gyan, MS-15C Gyan Cannon, MS-15F Gyan Marine and MS-15Kg Gyan Krieger. Finally, when first SD Gundam G Generation released on PlayStation in 1998 successor to Gyan known as MS-15K Gyan Kai (kai ( modified?)), designed by Kimitoshi Yamane appear. This new model of Gyan has improved beam sword which can be used as metal lance.

[edit] AMX-104 R-Jarja

The AMX-104 R-Jarja is a fictional weapon in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ.

R-Jarja is a Mobile Suit built by Neo Zeon during the First Neo Zeon war. Its design is based on the YMS-15 Gyan built by the Principality of Zeon. It was designed primarily for melee combat, and is armed with a beam saber, as well as a heat sword attached to its beam rifle as a bayonet. Its main "unique" defensive feature was a set of shields that could be flipped to provide extra protection to the front or rear of the AMX-104. It never made it to mass production, although the prototype is piloted by Chara Soon.
