[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada

I think your project might be a bit too specific right now, particularly considering that there is not even a more general project for the Northwest Territories overall yet. However, someone else has recently set up an umbrella project at the location above where they might be able to help you establish a more appealing project page, publicize it, etc. I really think a more generalized project for the Northwest Territories overall would be of infinite value both to Canadian wikipedians and wikipedia as a whole though. Badbilltucker 20:30, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks a bunch Badbilltucker, I have since joined the project, and am on my way to making a difference. -YK Times 01:55, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Photo request

Hi, I see you're from Yellowknife. If you have a digital camera, would you be able to get a picture of the Northwest Territories Legislative Building? Thanks, - 02:47, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

I'll try to take one, but I'm a student, and I don't really get out that way too often. Sorry. Yk Times 00:36, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Operation bulldog 1.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Operation bulldog 1.png. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 03:09, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Addressed fair use concerns in a manner I feel is sufficient. If not, please leave a message, and I will do all I can to make it right. YK Times 22:42, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AutoWikiBrowser

Thank you for your recent application to use AutoWikiBrowser. Regrettably, I have declined your request as you do not have 500 mainspace edits. You are welcome to apply again at a later time. Feel free to contact me with any questions, Alphachimp 08:35, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption?

Would you like to be adopted? Let me know which areas interest you here on WP and I might be able to help! A message on my Talk page is the best way to contact me. I am on UK time (GMT+0), if that is an issue. (aeropagitica) 06:10, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks a bunch for considering me for adoption! I live in a different time zone (MST, -7:00), but I don't think it will be an issue. I am interested in new article creation, disambig. linking, copy editing, and learning in general everything I need to know to become a successful, knowledgable Wikipedian (I have a secret desire to one day be an Admin, probably like most other users). Have a cool yule! -YK Times 00:56, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

That's great! Ask your questions on my Talk page and I will do my best to find the answers and deliver them in a style suited to you. Happy editing and I look forward to working with you! (aeropagitica) 05:56, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm really grateful that you adopted me! I want to become really involved with Wikipedia. How do you recommend I go about this? What did you do? Also, could you comment on the design of my userpage? Thx. -YK Times 23:24, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for getting back to me! Firstly, you can look at Wikipedia:Contributing to Wikipedia for ideas about becoming involved. There's plenty to do here! You can also join a programme such as Esperanza to talk with and relate to other editors. I become more involved with Wikipedia through editing pages about which I knew something, then following links to other pages, etc. My first welcome message alerted me to the existence of the Talk pages and usernames, which then linked through to the project areas such as XfD and admin-related noticeboards. I will comment on your pages tomorrow, if you like, as it is nearly midnight here in the UK and I have work in the morning. Goodnight! (aeropagitica) 23:57, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] It's good to talk!

I know its close to Christmas, so don't hurry to get back to me; enjoy yourself and have fun! Now for my question of the day: how do Wikipedia users communicate and collaborate, other than through talk pages? is there a way? Thanks, and have a cool yule! -YK Times 00:38, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello! Sorry that I didn't comment on your pages yesterday, I had terrible problems with my cable provider and a faulty PC - both took most of yesterday to put right, hence me being up late right now at the end of this admin shift! Yes, Christmas is nearly here and I will probably be away from WP for the first half of next week, family and friends permitting. Talk pages are the main way that editors communicate with each other about WP-related matters. You can also use e-mail, IRC, Instant Messenger or other things such as Skype. Sometimes, if you're both in a large city/university, you can even meet another Wikipedian and discuss things face-to-face! The 'e-mail this user' is available on the left-hand side of each page, in the list below the search window. You can set this up in your preferences, at the top right-hand side. The recipient will see your e-mail address but they won't see yours when sending you a message. Bear this in mind if you don't have a WP-specific e-mail account set up. The IRC channel can be found at irc://chat.freenode.net/wikipedia. Instant Messenger depends upon knowing the handle that your interlocuter is using and those that use Skype tend to say so on their Talk pages. There also communal areas for communication and discussion, such as the Help Desk, Reference Desk, the Village Pump and also admin-related areas such as WP:ANB. See Help:Contents/Communication for more details. Regards, (aeropagitica) 00:57, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Con mine aerial.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Con mine aerial.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 04:43, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I have changed the licence (as I created the work) to a free one. -YK Times 01:09, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Graphic Lab and "Requested pictures"

Hello,
I added some comments on Wikipedia_talk:Graphic_Lab#Merge_with_Wikipedia:Requested_pictures. I now think we don't have to merge them, but to divide the tasks more clearly.

  • The Requested_pictures page : list of pictures need to be took (such as "please, take your camera and take a picture of a White bear running toward you"). Contribute to this project will need to have a camera.
  • The graphic lab : list of improvement of picture asked. Contribute to the Graphic lab will need to have a graphic software.

Not the same task, not the same project page.

Moreover, I notice you that I just read quickly all this pages (I don't contribute so much on wiki-english, so I often go too fast), and I can be misunderstanding their functions. But I think it's a good way to go. Yug (talk) 20:30, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that was sort of my original opinion too. -YK Times 23:12, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:GA onhold(YKTimes).svg is broken

Image:GA onhold(YKTimes).svg isn't showing up: see Template talk:GAonhold. I've temporarily reverted back to the old pair of images, but it would be nice if you could explain why it's not working or fix it. Thanks, --N Shar (talk contribs) 06:37, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't know what it was (maybe it was the brackets); it displayed fine on the image page, but not as a thumbnail. Maybe the MediaWiki softawre choked on the brackets. Anyway, I uploaded a new version to Image:GA onhold.svg. It should work fine. -YK Times 23:12, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
I think it was the brackets. Anyway, it now works for me as well. Thanks! --N Shar (talk contribs) 04:44, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Graphics Lab

Hi! Since you seem to be one of the Graphic's Lab's leaders, I thought I would bring to your attention my response to this Talk post. I would greatly appreciate your feedback on my suggestion. Thanks! MithrandirMageT 16:10, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
