[edit] Self-ref
Except for the first phrase, I've cut the following from the article. This is about what Wikipedia may do in the future, certainly not of encyclopedic importance.
There is no general agreement on how to transliterate Hebrew words, which is a subject of extensive discussion in itself. An official policy regarding the Romanization of Hebrew is being developed for Wikipedia articles. When this is finalized it may also be appropriate for use in the transliteration of the Hebrew component of Yiddish texts but should not be seen as applicable to vocabulary written using the phonetic Yiddish orthography. The reader may wish to note that Wikipedia articles display a range of approaches to the Romanization of Yiddish, of which not all are based on documented methodologies.

[edit] Article too long?
This article has now grown to the point where it may be appropriate to split it in half. One possible division would be into Yiddish orthography and typography and Yiddish dialectology and phonology. I will gladly do the work but would appreciate comments about the need for it, and its focus, before proceeding. --futhark 10:14, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
