YFG Letterkenny

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Letterkenny branch of Young Fine Gael is predominantly based in Letterkenny IT, although it has also non-student members. It currently has over 100 members, who were registered in LYIT's Clubs and Societies Day on 26th September 2006. The branch is the central organisational branch for County Donegal, the other two branches being based in Milford and Glenties.

The activities of the branch include workshops, fundraising and canvassing. Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny launched the second edition of Young Fine Gael's newsletter, "YFG Donegal Info", in Letterkenny IT on 6th October 2006, and met with a deputation of YFG members.

With an upcoming general election, the branch has been working closely with Fine Gael's Dáil candidate, Senator Joe McHugh, as well as the Fine Gael Michael Collins branch in Letterkenny, with current YFG chairperson Paddy McArt acting as youth officer for the branch.

In June 2005, the three branches came together and organised a weekend in Donegal Town, where meetings of Young Fine Gael's International Committee and Education Committee were held.

In March 2006, a new committee was elected, which was chaired by James Dawson. The committee immediately set up a working group on setting up a website for Senator Joe McHugh. In July 2006, the branch organised a workshop on community and jobs in Buncrana.
