I remeber Rabbi Ruderman zt"l saying that "this is a mussar yeshiva". People commented later that the yeshiva was named after Rabbi Yisroel Slanter who was the founder of the Mussar movement. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.233.114.179 (talk • contribs).

As a member of the Rosh Heyeshivah, the Baal Avodas Levi's mishpocha, and as a grandson of one of the founding students, I have it on good authority that it was named Ner Yisrael for the Chofetz Chaim (Yisrael Meir=Ner Yisrael)who was niftar that year, 1933. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 4.227.44.241 (talk • contribs).

It is still under arguement in the community. The origin of the name is only known by Rosh Yeshiveh SHLIT"A, so, I may eventually find out. Gut moed --Shaul avrom 00:17, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Current title is extremely long and unwieldy. The institution is not called "Yeshivas Ner Yisrael: Ner Israel Rabbinical College" - it's either one or the other. I would be fine with either one, but I suggest that it be moved to Ner Israel Rabbinical College because it is overwhelmingly more common per a Google test. • Disagree/comment maybe on the internet it is commonly known as nirc, but in Real life(I learn by Ner) it is called Ner Yisrael, though written as Ner Yisroel. BTW you need to say the same about RSA, I have moved it from Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim, to Yeshivas Chofetz Chaim. I say it should be moved to Yeshivas Ner Yisroel (Only issue would have to be the disambig[if someone writes the page] from zupnik). --Shuli 12:49, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

• I guess that depends on your definition of Real life - there is no doubt in my mind that the bochurim who learn there, as well as the majority of the frum community, call it Ner Yisrael. I call it by that name myself, when I have occasion to mention the yeshiva in conversation. However, according to WP:NAME, "Generally, article naming should prefer what the majority of English speakers would most easily recognize," - which takes into account non-Jews as well, obviously. Considering that Google gives over 19,000 hits for the English name and only around 1500 for the Hebrew name, it seems clear that it's not just "on the internet" that it's called NIRC. But again, as I said before, it wouldn't bother me so much to move it to Yeshivas Ner Yisroel, if only to get it out of its current title.--DLand^TALK 13:20, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
