The remains of Ancient Irea located on the right of Alfios River, a few m. SW of “Lutra Ireas” village (province of Gortynia, prefecture of Arcadia). As first settler is reputed IREEFS (Greek Ηραιεύς), who was son of Lykeon. At the b.C 6th c. Irea was a big Arcadian city. Here, the cult of PAN was different from centre Arcadia: Deus PAN used to represent with the face of Apollo. In three Pan’s Altars, the people structured music. His famous statue, created by Polyclitos (Greek Πολύκλειτος), is stamped on gold coin of b.C 4th c. B.C.5th c. silver coins repressed IRA, (Greek Θεά Ήρα, protector of a city). Famous were Olympic Champions Dimaretus (Greek Δημάρετος) (B.C.520), his son Theopompos (Greek Θεόπομπος, 516 B.C.), his grandson Theopompos (Greek Θεόπομπος) and other three too.
