Yellapura

Yellapura ( anglicised as Yellapur )is a tiny town in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka state, India. It is nestled in forests of Western ghats (Sahyadri) of India. The town is surrounded by dense forests having rich flora and fauna. Teakwood trees are found here. The town is on route from Ankola to Dharwad.The truckers and other motorists use as resting point to get rid of tiredness and boredome of driving while negotiating sharp curves and steep roads of ghats.

Such towns are known by "Main road towns", usually they have one main road. In fact they are villages with a bit better facilities like telephone booths, tea serving stalls, tyre puncture repair shop, than other villages of rest of India. 90% of the people in Yellapur are farmers and they lie on Arecanut(Supari).The farmers here not only grow Arecanut, they grow rice for their requirements.

Yellapur comes under Western Ghats section of Karnataka.The most fascinating thing about Yellapur is two famous natural falls, and many other hills and valleys.
Satoddi falls: It is one of the most beautiful falls in Karnataka.It at distance of 25 Kilometers from Yellapur town.It is not possible to visit the falls in rainy season.November to April is the best time to visit the falls.
Magod falls: As the name indicates Magod falls comes near a village called Magod.After going about 1.5KM from Yellapur on the Yellapur- Karwar Highway(NH-17),you have to turn left which takes usto Magod falls. Magod waterfalls is situated 19 kms away from Yellapura, in the Magodu village. Here, the Bedthi river takes two distinct leaps to hurtle from a height of 650ft. into a rocky ravine. The thickly wooded countryside, the roar of gushing water and a beautiful view combine to make this spot an ideal choice for outings. - Vinu

Yellapur is located at 14.97° N 74.72° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 541 metres (1774 feet). Magod waterfalls is situated 19 kms away from Yellapura, in the Magodu village. Here, the Bedthi river takes two distinct leaps to hurtle from a height of 650ft. into a rocky ravine. The thickly wooded countryside, the roar of gushing water and a beautiful view combine to make this spot an ideal choice for outings.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Yellapur had a population of 17,938. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Yellapur has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 68%. In Yellapur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
