Year of the Teledu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Year of the Teledu is a one-off science fiction convention to be held in Leicester, UK over the weekend of July 20th - 22nd 2007. It could be loosely described as a FunCon, focusing more on everyone having an enjoyable weekend than a specific type of Science Fiction.
In a break from traditional conventions, the entire programme and convention is in the hands of the members, organised by a wiki and a Live Journal community. To prevent chaos three Officers, the Chair, Treasurer and Membership Secretary, deal with the paperwork and act as final arbitrators.
[edit] Background
"Year of the Wombat" was a one-off science fiction convention held in Nottingham, UK in 1997. Nearly ten years later some of the main organisers decided that they wanted to do something new: an Open Source convention.
A Teledu is a type of badger, but is also the Welsh word for television. This last fact was a coincidence.
