Year Zero Part 2 is the tentative title of a Nine Inch Nails studio album to be released sometime in 2008. In a 2007 interview with Kerrang! magazine, frontman Trent Reznor expressed his intentions to write material for a follow-up, to be seen as a "sequel", to the 2007 concept album album Year Zero.

[edit] About the album

First reports of the eventual record came in a news report by FMBQ.com even before the release of the "Survivalism" single:

"Nine Inch Nails has revealed the tracklist for Year Zero on the Web site yearzero.nin.com, and it looks like the new CD will have 16 tracks. The album is due in stores on April 17, and the first single, "Survivalism," will arrive at radio on February 27 with an add date of March 6. Reportedly Year Zero will be the first of two concept albums, and the second one will be released probably in 2008."

In an interview with MTV News, Trent Reznor mentioned Year Zero as "part one", hinting that there will be a second part to the story. The album may have an entirely different title based on the way Reznor worded part one specifically as "Year Zero", though this may just be an oversight.

"Part one is Year Zero. Concept record. Sixteen tracks. What's it about? Well, it takes place about 15 years in the future. Things are not good. If you imagine a world where greed and power continue to run their likely course, you'll have an idea of the backdrop," he continued. "The world has reached the breaking point — politically, spiritually and ecologically. Written from various perspectives of people in this world, Year Zero examines various viewpoints set against an impending moment of truth."

—Trent Reznor, MTV News[2].

The album was mentioned in a March 6, 2007 interview with Kerrang! magazine, wherein a possible film based on Year Zero was also alluded to:

[Reznor's] admitted he's already in talks about a movie version of his upcoming album a concept piece, with part two scheduled for next year. "I'm excited by the prospect of what this has brought to me, We're really looking into things it could be."

—Trent Reznor, Kerrang![3].

The album, as well as mention of the continuation of the Year Zero alternate reality game campaign, was also briefly mentioned in a report by Blabbermouth.net:

...The same source told Billboard that Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor views the campaign as a "new entertainment form." The source added that the campaign will continue for the next 18 months. Year Zero is reportedly the first of two concept albums, the second of which Reznor hopes to finish next year."
