Talk:Year Zero (alternate reality game)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I started the page as best I could. It still needs ALOT of work, and hopefully you all can help me out with that. Here's a basic to do list, as far as I see it. Alot of the current issues with the article are simply because I've transferred information from the album article or from ninwiki with only limited reformatting/wikifying. Feel free to add to the list and/or strike things off the list:

  1. Fill in the TON of unreferenced or [citation needed]-ed stuff I had to put in the article. This might be a ridiculous amount of work, we'll see. As a suggestion, Rolling Stone has actually had pretty decent coverage of the Year Zero stuff so far. We may have to trim the article down eventually if some things are just plain unverifiable, but we'll cross that bridge when exhaust all the possibilities.
  2. Also, feel free to add more [citation needed] tags.
  3. Fill in the "Background" and "Premise" sections.
  4. Cleanup the "Fictional characters and organizations," "Fictional drugs," "In-game websites," and "In-game phone numbers" sections. If you think any of these sections are unneccessary or should be totally redone in some way, discuss it here.
  5. I think the in-game time line needs some work, since there is alot of relatively unimportant stuff (such as individual posts and/or characters from the fake forums). I copied alot of this stuff from the ninwiki with limited reformatting, so delete unimportant stuff at will.
  6. Maybe add a few more images? Ninwiki has a ton of them, but since ninwiki has different requirements than Wikipedia, alot of the images are lacking any sort of fair-use/copyright rationale.
  7. One thing that kind of bothered me when I was transferring over stuff from ninwiki Timeline was that some of the dates given were one of two possible dates (2/8/2022 or 2/2/2022, for example). When I did a little research it seemed clear to me which date the fictional game was referring to, and yet this multiple possible dates thing is pretty consistent. Am I missing something?
  8. The February 19th stuff bothers me. According to the sources I looked at, there was an MP3 released at a concert in Barcelona and a flier handed out at a concert in Paris, on the same night! That can't be right!
  9. I think the list of external links at the bottom should also be cleaned up a bit. For instance, all the Mailstrom wreckage and shards might be better suited in the Mailstrom section, thought most likely in a more compact format than straight bullet points.
  10. Last but not least, cleanup the Year Zero (album) page, as well as adding appropriate links to this page there and on the NIN template.

Thanks for the help! I think I got the article off to a decent start, but I know it can be way better with you’re help!

[edit] In-game websites

I think that part is quite useless. All the websites can be listed in other sections, and the links to them are posted below. Goldenglove 09:08, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

I was intending on adding stuff, not just have the links. I did a bit of it just a second ago.Drewcifer3000 09:42, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes, it's loads better now, but it sort of conflicts with "Fictional Characters & Organizations", 'cos it's quite logical to Include "Consolidated Mail Systems", "Another Version of the Truth" and The Mailstrom there. Goldenglove 14:00, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
I agree with you somewhat, in some circumstances. I suppose the dileniation might be whether or not, in-game, the organization exists outside of a website, or if the website is clearly the only manifistation of said group or character. For instance, The Church of Plano would be better suited for the character/organization section, since, even though it has a website, it's an actual entity outside of the website, and in fact the website is about the group. In such a circumstances (as well as the Judson Orgram facility) a mention of the website might be worthwhile, but only under the character/organization section. I would put the consolidated mail systems, another version of the truth, and the Mailstrom in the websites section, since although it does represent the efforts of a real organization, they only exist as websites. Does that make sense?Drewcifer3000 08:02, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Yep, it does. Sorry for the trouble(if there was any). Goldenglove 16:00, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
