Yeşilçam

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yesilcam refers to the Turkish cinema industry in the same way that Hollywood refers to American cinema, and Pinewood refers to British cinema. Yesilcam experienced its heyday during the 1950s-1970s, when it saw through 250-350 films annually.

[edit] History

After the 1970s, the spread of television across Turkish homes saw audience numbers drop sharply, and as a result, Yesilcam suffered.

However, Yesilcam has seen a revival since 2002, having produced universally recognised and critically acclaimed movies such as Uzak, Babam ve Oğlum and Propaganda.
