[edit] Biography

Born November 14, 1975 Father Dr. Ivan Restrepo and Martha Alicia Rodriguez (economists). Since childhood, Yaxkin has been very interested in music. At age 10, he began developing a special interest for pop, post disco and rock music. At that time, he was influenced by mixtapes from Keith Smith Jr. on local radio station Stereo Rey, and Martin Delgado radioshows on Stereo 100 and WFM (1983-1985). He began getting his first 12" around 1982-1983. He later started to focus on the DJ scene of that time. By 1985, he started with a friend his first block parties simply for fun. By 1989, he was more involved with some close friends who taught him more about music and DJing skills and with some professional DJs of that time.

During 1990, Restrepo got his first job as helper in some "second class" clubs. By the end of that year, he competed in the first DJ Championships, "La Opera 1990" in Queretaro. He didn't win, but he tried to get involved with the professional DJs that assist to the Finals and semifinals.

1991 was a very important year for Yaxkin. That year, he got his first job as DJ in Mexico City in the Club Vertigo with DJ Miguel Alanis. Later, he was invited to collaborate at Tiffany's club. By the middle of 1991, Yaxkin collaborated with DJs and producer Joaquin Diaz and Mauricio Ponce (both residents of Magic Circus club) in the production of the mix sets of the 7th anniversary of the WFM Radio station. Due to his skills in open reel tapes edits, and his ability on scratching. He matched well with Mauricio music taste, soon both continue working together editing several tapes for Wfm. By December 1991, he went to the second DJ Battle LA OPERA 1991, winning semifinals. By that time, most of the DJs and club owners knew him due his short age and his great talent.

1992 was the year that Yaxkin joined the DJ booth of one of the most important clubs in Mexico city, "Magic Circus" along with Maurico Ponce. Together they were very successful in the Sunday evenings, where the underage kids go to dance. During all 1992, they championed a large list of house music records. Those music sets on Sundays, encapsulated the whole house music scene of that time. Meanwhile, all the clubs were on the crossover and top 40 programming, Yaxkin and Mauricio push their musical taste at the limits with lots of Deep house records. David Morales, Todd Terry, Steve "Silk" Hurley and Frankie Knuckles were some names of the producers that often sounds on the Magic Circus dance floor during that era. Also in this year Yaxkin knew some Colombian DJs during a vacation trip to that country, like Hernan Acevedo, William Umana, Dj wady among others, that now are music producers and recognised DJs.

Due to some personal differences as a result of Mauricio's wife at that time, Mauricio and Yaxkin split the team by the middle of November 1992. It wasn't until 1998 that Mauricio and Yaxkin fixed their differences.

By 1993, Yaxkin was one of the DJs in Mekano club, later in Bananas Ranas, Medusas, Quetzal Club and many more. In 1997, he started his remix career, under the name of Mx Mix project with his partner at that time Miguel Alanis. Soon Yaxkin collaborated in production and remixes of many artists like Paulina Rubio, Yuri, Moenia and Mercurio to mention a few.
