Yaupon Beach, North Carolina

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yaupon Beach, North Carolina was a coastal resort that incorporated as a town in 1955 on Oak Island in Brunswick County, North Carolina. It has weathered many hurricanes, including Hazel in 1954 and Floyd in 1999. It merged with neighboring Long Beach in 1999 to form the town of Oak Island. Due to political tension in the last few years, a petition drive was begun by Yaupon Beach residents in 2004 to secede from Oak Island and become a separate town again.
